About Planet Prose
Planet Prose is a short story competition organised in celebration of World Book Day 2024. Participants are encouraged to unleash their imagination and write a story about climate change, sustainability, and nature.
The competition is open to children and young people aged 6 to 18.
There are 3 categories and there’ll be 1 winner in each category:
- aged 6 to 10
- aged 11 to 14
- aged 15 to 18
Winners will be announced on World Book Day, Thursday 7 March 2024.
The winner of each category will also have their story published in the Jersey Evening Post on Thursday 7 March 2024 as part of a double page spread.

Planet Prose World Book Day winning submissions
What you need to do
Participants must write a short story which explores a mix of the following themes:
- the impact of climate change on our planet
- the importance of addressing climate change and becoming a sustainable society
- what a future where climate change has been addressed may look like
Your story should be no longer than 600 words.
Stories will be judged on:
- creativity and imagination
- relevance to the themes
- originality of the story
- clarity and structure
- emotional impact

Planet Prose 2024 is closed.
You must submit your story by Wednesday 14 February 2024.
To do this, you can either:
- email your story to
ecoactive@gov.je. Your subject line should include ‘Planet Prose Short Story Submission’, your name and age category
- post to Maritime House, Sustainability and Climate Change Engagement Team, Government of Jersey, La Route du Port Elizabeth, St Helier, Jersey, JE1 1HB
Your submission must have the participant’s:
