The Statistics Unit has published updates to Jersey's population projections and future housing needs report.
The population projections explore what would happen to Jersey’s population under different migration scenarios. The population is modelled using the 2011 census as a baseline and recent trends in fertility, mortality and migration.
The report explores how various migration scenarios would affect the size and structure of Jersey’s population over a range of time periods:
- short term (2025)
- medium term (2035)
- long term (2065)
The population projections are important to help government, businesses and the public to understand not only the likely changes in the overall size of Jersey’s population but also its structure in terms of age distribution under a range of migration scenarios. The information can inform debate and decision-making across government departments over the following months and years.
The future housing needs report has been updated to incorporate the revised population projections as well as migration levels that reflect recent trends.
