Today, the BBC have launched a public consultation into the funding of reduced-cost TV licences for people over the age of 75. The consultation is taking place in Jersey, Guernsey, and the Isle of Man, and will inform the BBC’s approach to funding TV licences in the future.
The consultation is open to all Islanders, and the BBC will contact individuals directly. People will have the opportunity to share any information that they think is important, especially any information that is specific to Jersey.
Older people in Jersey can currently apply for the
Over 75’s TV Licence Benefit, which pays for the TV licences of people over the age of 75 who are on a low income. This scheme will continue, regardless of the results of the consultation.
Funding for the Over 75’s TV Licence Benefit has been ringfenced in the Government Plan 2020-2023. The States Assembly has also passed a proposition which means that Jersey can decide which concessions to introduce.
