One third of 16-17 year olds receive first dose

26 August 2021

The latest Covid-19 vaccination statistics as at Sunday 22 August, show that 32% of Islanders aged 16 and 17 have received a first dose. Additionally, 82% of all adult Islanders aged over 18 are fully vaccinated.

Key statistics:

  • 88% of Islanders aged over 30 are double vaccinated
  • 75,860 first doses have been administered
  • 71,783 second doses have been administered

Head of the Vaccination Programme, Becky Sherrington, said: "I am delighted that one in every three Islanders aged 16 or 17 have had a dose of the vaccine. This is fantastic and I would like to encourage more young Islanders to make the time to get their first dose before heading back to school.

"There are also lots of 18-year olds who will be travelling to University for the first time, so I urge those Islanders to get vaccinated so that they can enjoy the fun social aspects of University such as Freshers week and enjoy settling into the first term. I am pleased with the vaccine uptake from these younger priority groups so far and urge them to keep it up.

"The number of Islanders becoming fully vaccinated continues to grow every week which is great, particularly as we have now entered Stage 7 of the Reconnection Roadmap and people will begin to socialise more, particularly at bars and clubs. It is important that Islanders afford themselves good protection against Covid-19 by getting vaccinated; Islanders are welcome to simply walk into the Vaccination Centre at a time that suits them to get their first or second dose and our medical staff are on hand to answer any questions Islanders may have about the vaccine."

If Islanders are walking in for their second dose, they must ensure that 28 days or more have passed since the first dose was administered. Islanders can book their first dose online at the COVID-19 Vaccine Appointments page or by ringing the Covid helpline.
