Search
To enter your search term, click or tap into the search box, type in your keywords and use the "search" button to get going.
We have a list of popular searches just underneath the search box on the home page, so you can find what you're looking for without having to search for it.
Using the correct keywords
Use the keyword that you think are relevant to the topic you're searching for. Avoid using any words and phrases that don't add value to your search, eg "how do I" or "what do I do when".
If you're being specific about your search and not getting the results you need, try to broaden your search terms or use fewer words.
The following examples will give you poor results: "I earn 300 hundred pounds a week, how much income support will I get?" or "how many cigarettes and spirits can I take home?" or "how do I get planning permission?".
Instead, try searching for:
- claiming income support
- cigarette allowance
- planning permission

Filter your results
The checkboxes allow you to search for specific types of content. You can filter by the following:
- web pages
- contacts
- consultations
- PDFs and documents
- news
- reports
Depending on what type of device you're using, you'll find the filters either on the right hand side or bottom of the page.
Any unchecked filters won't show in your search. When you uncheck a box, the search results will update automatically.

You can change the number of search results being displayed per page.
You can either see 10, 20 or 50 results per page, depending on your preference.
