Trinity School Pedestrian access improvements trial scheme

About the Project

A trial scheme to improve facilities for pedestrian and bus users at Trinity Primary School will begin in September 2024 and continue to August 2025. Feedback received during this trial will be used to design a permanent scheme which will be constructed in August 2025.

A recent school travel plan survey highlighted difficulties parents and children going to Trinity Primary School have crossing the main road and the limits this places on the schools ability to use The Riley Field for lessons and play.

There is also nowhere off road for bus users catching a south bound bus to wait. This has resulted in children sitting on the safety barrier at the side edge of the carriageway, where there is a steep fall behind them.

To address both these issues, Infrastructure & Environment (IE) will be providing temporary footway build outs to narrow the road and provide an improved crossing facility.

The build outs will also provide an improved waiting area for bus passengers.

A full time 20mph speed limit will replace the part time 20mph speed limit for the duration of the trial scheme. It will also no longer be possible to turn right from La Route de la Trinite into Les Ruelles.

Schedule of works

  • Trial Scheme Construction
    • Monday 19 August 2024 to Friday 6 September 2024

School Street

The improved crossing and bus stop facilities will be implemented alongside the Trinity School Street Scheme on Les Ruelles.

Access to Les Ruelles will be closed during term times from both directions on Monday to Friday 8.15am to 9am, and again from 2.30pm to 3.15pm.

Access

Trinity Primary School will manage access to Les Ruelles for the duration of the trial.

People traveling by car to Trinity School are asked to park in The Riley Field.

Buses

The Trinity School bus stops will be temporarily relocated on the days when the footway buildouts are constructed.

Feedback

IE will be recording feedback from all road users about this scheme.
