Training available
All of the Jersey's Children First training has been updated to reflect the statutory guidance supporting the Children and Young People (Jersey) Law 2022.
Even if you have completed Jersey's Children First training previously, it's recommended that you complete one of the updated online learning programmes to understand how the Jersey's Children First framework supports you to work with the statutory guidance.
There are 2 online learning programmes:

Once you have completed your online learning, there are 3 face to face courses available.
A set of four online training modules and 3 toolkits have also been developed to explain key areas of the statutory guidance that supports the
Children and Young People (Jersey) Law 2022. They explain how to carry out duties and responsibilities under the law.

Jersey's Children First Training Matrix
Jersey's Children First Introduction
Online
Takes around 1.5 hours to complete
| This programme is suitable for people working primarily with adults who may be parents or carers, or whose work does not regularly involve direct contact with children and young people.
There are 6 bite size modules to complete.
By the end of the course you will:
- have an overview of the Jersey's Children First practice model
- understand Jersey's Children First shared values, principles, qualities and language
- understand it is everyone's responsibility to ask questions when they think a child is not okay

Jersey's Children First Essentials
Online
Takes around 3 hours to complete
| This programme is suitable for everyone who works regularly with children, young people and their families.
There are 11 bite sized modules to complete to equip you to use the practice model in your day to day work with children, young people and families. By the end of the course you will:
- understand Jersey's Children First shared values, principles and language
- understand the complex process of transition to engagement in children and families' experiences
- understand our shared qualities and what they look like in practice
- understand the 5 Questions and the Wellbeing Indicators and how these can be used to help understand when and how to provide support for a child and family
- know how to complete a wellbeing assessment using the shared templates and tools and how to plan intervention

Completing an Early Help Wellbeing Assessment
3 hours in person
| This course develops participant's understanding of how to complete an early help wellbeing assessment. It covers tools that can be used to ensure the voice of the child is heard and how to ensure that all family members and carers can contribute effectively with consent. The course provides examples of a completed assessment. Participants are required to have completed the Essentials training within the past 12 months.
By the end of the course participants will:
- be confident in completing early help wellbeing assessments using shared templates and tools
- understand the assessment process and timescales
- understand the importance of analysing the information gathered
- capture the voice of the child taking into account their individual needs
- consolidate Jersey's Children First shared principles, values and language

Role and Responsibilities of the Lead Worker
6 hours in person
| This specialist course builds directly on the Essentials course to examine the role and responsibilities of the Lead Worker and the members of the Team around the Child in creating, monitoring and reviewing an early help wellbeing plan. Participants are required to have completed the Essentials training within the past 12 months.
By the end of the course participants will:
- understand the shared responsibilities of all members of the Team around the Child
- understand the role, main tasks and skills of the Lead Worker
- be confident in chairing a planning meeting
- understand how to monitor and review the Child's Plan

Using and Sharing Chronologies
3 hours in person
| This course looks at both single and multi agency chronologies in detail: - their purpose
- their construction
- their use in working with children, young people and families
Participants are required to have completed the Essentials training within the past 12 months.
By the end of the course participants will:
- understand when to consider a chronology
- understand what information needs to be considered in a chronology
- be aware of what information is appropriate to share across agencies
- be able to consider the impact of the patterns of information in a chronology in conjunction with a child's assessment to improve a child's circumstances

| This module should be completed by everyone in organisations (including volunteers) that work with and provide services to children, young people and families including organisations defined as corporate parents under the Children and Young People (Jersey) Law 2022. During this module, participants will:
- explore elements of the statutory guidance that accompany the Children and Young People (Jersey) Law 2022
- discover how the Children and Young People (Jersey) Law 2022 and its accompanying statutory guidance build on and work in conjunction with the Jersey's Children First's framework

Online
This module will take approximately 1 hour to complete
| This module should be completed by all employees and volunteers that provide services to children, young people and families and organisations defined as corporate parents under the Children and Young People (Jersey) Law 2022. During this module, participants will:
- identify the shared vision for working together to promote the wellbeing and safeguard the welfare of children and young people
- explain the purpose of Jersey's Children First framework
- explain the importance of early intervention
- define the Working Together Principles and provide examples of how they might apply in context
- identify who must fulfil the additional five responsibilities when discharging their functions under the Law
- identify the five additional responsibilities and what they mean for practice

Online
This module will take approximately 1 hour to complete
| This module should be completed by all employees and volunteers that are likely to share information about children, young people and families as part of their role and organisations defined as corporate parents under the Children and Young People (Jersey) Law 2022.
During this module, participants will:
- recognise the importance of sharing information to promote the wellbeing and safeguard the welfare of children and young people
- identify the data protection and human rights principles and how to share information in line with these principles.
- recall the questions you should consider when deciding whether to share information
- be aware of how review and audit of information sharing arrangements and decision making can drive continuous improvement

Children and Young People, Statutory Guidance: Corporate parenting
Online
This module will take approximately 1 hour to complete
| This module should be completed by corporate parents defined under the Children and Young People (Jersey) Law 2022. During this module, participants will:
- identify the six responsibilities of corporate parents
- recognise your responsibilities when preparing, publishing and keeping under review a plan on your role as a corporate parent
- list the information that you must and may include in your plan
- recognise your responsibilities to publish information on the services you offer to looked after children and care leavers
- identify your responsibilities in respect to collaborating with other corporate parents
