Of outstanding importance as the only naval coastal artillery battery in Jersey; and probably the best example of a former German coastal battery to be found in Western Europe. Context n/a External Description Site includes numerous structures, some of which are buried: 1 x Type M132 Leitstand (naval artillery command bunker) (fully restored); 1 x naval artillery direction and range-finding tower 'MP1' (fully restored); 4 x elevated KM/SK (Naval/Special Construction) emplacements for 15cm SK L/45 coastal artillery guns ('Gun Nos. 1-4') with associated ramps (a recovered 15cm SK L/45 gun from Battery 'Lothringen' is mounted on the No. 1 Gun emplacement and a recovered 22cm K18 gun barrel from Battery 'Haeseler' is mounted on the No. 2 Gun emplacement); 7 x naval (KM/SK) ammunition bunkers (numbered 'I - VII') (four of which have been excavated and partially restored); 4 x naval (KM/SK) personnel bunkers (two of which have been excavated and partially restored); 6 x emplacements for 2cm Flak Oerlikon anti-aircraft guns and associated crew's quarters (comprising Type 101v personnel bunkers - two of which have been excavated and partially restored); 1 x VF (Reinforced Field Order) shelter for 110 cm coastal artillery searchlight 'Moritz' with operating platform and 2 x VF shelters for the crew and generating set; 1 x 60cm searchlight emplacement; 2 x emplacements for 7.5cm FK 231(f) French field guns and 1 x gun shelter garage; 1 x water supply bunker with machine-gun emplacement on roof; 1 x 'Wellblech' (VF) personnel shelter; 1 x machine-gun position in C18 lookout post; 2 x concrete mountings for tank turrets; remains of 8.8cm SK C/35 naval gun mounting; remains of early (pre-1941) mountings for three 15cm SK L/45 coastal artillery guns; remains of latrine blocks; concrete cable conduits; concrete, brick and stone foundations/stairs for various wooden structures. The naval artillery direction and range-finding tower 'MP1' is one of only three towers constructed in Jersey out of a planned total of nine. The towers are of a design that is unique to the Channel Islands, and MP1 is the only tower that is not free-standing, but built into the terrain and accessed from the top floor. The battery's four elevated gun platforms, which show the influence of naval design, are the only examples of their type in the Channel Islands (and possibly worldwide). The Type M132 naval artillery command bunker extends downwards on two floors, with only two armoured observation cupolas, a range-finder mounting and ventilation stack visible above ground. It is the only example of its type in Jersey, and one of only two intact examples worldwide (the other being in Norway).
