The consistent height, proportions and materials of this row of early buildings is a fine enclosure to the north side of Royal Square. Context Nos. 13-16, forming one side of Royal Square, have similar elevational treatment. External Description 3 storey with attic, 4 bay (2:2). Front, south elevation: Pantile roof with hipped E end, granite chimney to W gable. 3 (2 singles, one double) flat roofed dormers with moulded projecting cornices. Dormer windows are 2 pane (1/1) timber sashes with horns. Walls are rendered with painted stone dressings to segmental headed window openings, under eaves and quoins. Windows to 2nd floor are 12 pane (6/6) timber sashes, no horns; to 1st floor are 2 pane (1/1) sashes, no horns. Flag pole to centre at 1st floor cill level. Ground floor shop front has full width projecting cornice with each 2 bays framed by pilasters. Two western bays have side entrance, 4 panel door with oval glazing to top of upper panels, and single pane glass shop front. Window cill has brass plaque. Fascia has ogee mouldings over door and window. Two eastern bays have recessed central entrance, 3 panel, upper 2 glazed, door with 2 pane windows either side. Window cill covering is brass. Fascia over has ogee moulding over door and windows and console brackets with floral decoration to face. Side, east elevation: Pantile hipped roof with original box dormer with 1 pane timber casement. Walls are rendered with painted stone dressings to flat arched window openings, under eaves, quoins and ground floor. Windows to 2nd floor are 12 pane (6/6) timber sashes, no horns; to 1st floor N is 2 pane (1/1) sash, no horns, S window is blind. Ground floor N window is 1 pane with boarded shutter. Shop window is framed with pilasters and plain, double brackets to projecting cornice (unpainted granite under cill). Clock bracketed from wall with elaborate ironwork.
