Early 19th century building, with phases of alteration, of a historic character and scale that contributes to the Royal Square.
Context
Forms a group with No 19
External Description
Corner property, one of a pair defining the eastern boundary of Royal Square, 3 bay, 4 storey. Fourth floor added in late C19. Front (west) elevation: Roof set behind parapet roof, brick chimney. Stucco ashlar effect. The current 12 pane sash windows are a recent addition. This frontage appears to have been altered numerous times, including ground floor window and door arrangements and various balcony railings to the first floor. Rear (east) elevation: 3 bay, 4 storey. Pitched roof set back behind parapet. Stucco with C19 style mouldings including a set of double pilasters at either corner and single pilasters delineating each bay, double height on first and second floor with Corinthian order capitals and cornice above, indicating original parapet level. Door cases to first floor windows and low ironwork balustrade in front. The 12 pane sash windows and the ground floor tripartite windows are all recent.
