Statement of significance A good example of an early Victorian Gothic Revival church which is illustrative of the expansion of the town and the influx of new English residents in the 1840s. Context n/a External Description Gothic Revival style. Constructed of granite but rendered (in sand cement) to suggest ashlar. Slate roof. Comprises a square west tower with a belfry and embattled parapet, tall corner pinnacles and polygonal spire with weathercock. There are lean-to wings against the lower half of the tower. The north and south walls are each of 5 bays separated by slender buttresses, with set back buttress at the corners. The walls have castellated tops. The tall side windows have Perpendicular tracery. There is a canted apse at the east end. The interior is very tall with galleries around three sides and a ceiling supported on slender quatrefoil wooden columns. Original box pews. The west front has good heavy railings and gates along the pavement.
