Statement of significance
A good example of an early Victorian Gothic Revival church which is illustrative of the expansion of the town and the influx of new English residents in the 1840s.

External Description
Gothic Revival style. Constructed of granite but rendered (in sand cement) to suggest ashlar. Slate roof. Comprises a square west tower with a belfry and embattled parapet, tall corner pinnacles and polygonal spire with weathercock. There are lean-to wings against the lower half of the tower. The north and south walls are each of 5 bays separated by slender buttresses, with set back buttress at the corners. The walls have castellated tops. The tall side windows have Perpendicular tracery. There is a canted apse at the east end. The interior is very tall with galleries around three sides and a ceiling supported on slender quatrefoil wooden columns. Original box pews. The west front has good heavy railings and gates along the pavement.
