It is also one of Jersey's finest works of public art. Context n/a External Description The Cenotaph is one of Jersey's finest works of public art. There is a crisply executed granite pylon with moulded base and cornice, topped by a sarcophagus decorated with carved triglyph frieze, volutes and wreath. The plinth is surrounded by steps and a stone paved area enclosed by a dressed granite wall with decorative cast iron railings in the Art Nouveau style. The inscription on the south side reads "OUR GLORIOUS DEAD - THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVER MORE"; on the north side "JERSEY A SES ENFANTS MORTS POUR LA PATRIE" and on the east and west sides are the dates "1914-1918" & "1939-1945".
