Statement of significance A good example of a C19 independent church group which retains its period architectural form. Context n/a External Description Early C19 church with late C19 congregational hall and library plus associated mid-C19 manse. Original 1809 chapel, single-storey, 5-bay. Slate roof. Principal gable to south front, stucco in imitation ashlar with rusticated quoins, moulded string course, trefoil opening on gable with fleur-de-lys finial. Central panel inscription MDCCCIX. Gabled and buttressed porch with pitch roof and trefoil moulding over door; flanked by 2 lancet windows with drip mouldings. Side walls of painted rubble granite with square-headed windows with Gothick-style tracery (likely changed from original arched form in 1880s). North end of roof ridge shows original hipped form – later changed to gabled form. Simple interior. 2-storey cross wing added to north in 1880, in similar style. Stucco with quoin strips and slate roof. Principal west gable faces road. Large square-headed windows with projecting bracketed surrounds, with additional cornice and brackets over central windows. Gothick-style tracery. Pair of paneled inscriptions at first floor: CONGREGATIONAL HALL & LIBRARY 1880 Roundel opening to gable apex. North wall facing manse less decorated but with similar Gothick-style glazing. Late C19 rock-faced boundary wall and gateway, carrying cast iron railings. Manse integral part of church site. 2-storey, 3-bay, with single-storey entrance porch to west gable. Rendered with slate roof. Windows 12-pane sashes with arched window to attic gable.
