Statement of significance
A distinct late C19 building in a style specific to Jersey parish halls and a symbol to the local community at the heart of the parish. Includes early C19 Militia building and 1920s war memorial - a poignant reminder of Jersey's involvement in world conflicts and the tragic impact that had on the Island community, continuing to this day as a focus for grief and remembrance.

External Description
Part of a group of important public buildings at the centre of the parish of St Lawrence. Parish hall with hall running east west, 2 storey frontage on the east side and clock tower on the SE corner. Front (east) elevation: Hipped slate roof with gable. Crested ridge tiles. Swecked stonework with ashlar base, quoins, window dressings, door surrounds, parapets and string course. Windows in pairs with accolade heads. Casement windows with lattice pattern glazing. Pointed arch doorway. Timber double doors, 4 pane overlight with Gothic style details. Clock on tower and dedication stone beneath it inscribed SALLE PAROISSALE CLEMENT LE GROS 18 CONNETABLE 82. Side (south) elevation: Slate roof with crested ridge tiles. Cuppola and weathervane. Gabled windows on hall. Tower has hipped roof. Swecked stonework with ashlar base, quoins, window dressings and mullions and a low string course. Butresses. The 2 hall windows are in a simplified Gothic style of 4 parallel windows with accolade heads and a round window above them. The windows to the tower also with accolade heads. Rear (west) elevation: Gable end of hall. Stone chimney. Swecked stonework with ashlar parapet, quoins, window dressings and mullions, and low string course. Window in a simplified Gothic style with 4 vertical windows with accolade heads and 2+1 round windows above them. Side (north) elevation: Slate roof with gables. Crested ridge tiles. Cuppola and weathervane in centre of hall roof. A 2 storey and single storey extension in brick. War memorial, c1920, granite, square plan, raised on stepped platform, tapering shaft has shield-shaped head. Detached to the west of the site is a small single-storey building with hipped slate roof and finely dressed granite ashlar walls. Large vehicular opening to east.
Internal Description
Large 2 storey hall with entrance hall and office to the front, offices and service spaces on the north side. Stairs from entrance hall up to small offices in tower have half round banister, turned balusters, turned newel posts with square bases and acorn finials. Rusticated panelling beneath. Hall has scissor braced roof trusses with trefoil detail at the base. Simple matchboard panelling to dado level, rusticated doors. Stage at west end.
