A symbol to the local community at the heart of the parish. The unusual style and high quality clock-tower roof, the colour and execution of the stone construction is superb throughout. Context As part of a group of parish halls throughout the island. External Description Scenically important as being visually at the centre of parish affairs. Main hall with a modern traditional-style southern extension (not of interest). Main hall: single storey, (fronted by a 3 storey, medieval-style clock-tower with single storey wings flanking). Front (west) elevation: the clock-tower has a 2-tiered, hipped slate roof with cresting and forms an abat-son (sound opening) with timber half-foils. Rusticated squared stone construction with dressed stone to the entrance arch, clock housing, slit windows, string course, buttresses and chimney. The main field of rusticated stone construction is in a rose coloured granite, whilst the dressed openings are in a contrasting greyish-pink granite. There is a tablet with A. LE CERF Connetable 1882. Flanking side wings matching, with timber casement windows. Side (north) elevation: matching slate part-hipped roof. Matching stone construction and windows. Rear (east) elevation: matching roof and stone construction, part with a gothic stained glass window with stone tracery. Internal Description The main feature is the survival of the timber roof, its (exposed) rafter and purlins are carried on braces that sit on corbels with cyma-recta profiles.
