Statement of significance A good example of a Methodist chapel, with early C19 origins, with adjoining 1850s cemetery. Context n/a External Description The church as it now stands is a plain granite building, rendered and painted, with a gabled slate roof. The west front has three Gothic arched openings with hood moulds to Y-tracery wooden windows over a Gothic gabled porch with small diagonal buttresses. Above the porch is the name 'Philadelphie' in raised lettering on a lintel-shaped block of granite. Similar but deeper windows to sides - three gothic-arched windows, each with drip mouldings and a simple Y-tracery. Early twentieth-century leaded windows with stylized stained glass panels. Gallery of 1842. Interior fittings date from 1877 and possibly later. Decorated panel tracery to tiered rostrum area, which is set in pointed-arched recess. Cast-iron frontal (as at Sion) to communion rail and reredos with French texts. Part of a very significant grouping with the chapel is cottage, school and adjoining cemetery. Single-bay manse/caretaker's cottage in-line to rear (east) from 1834 with a gabled roof at a slightly lower level. The side walls are rendered but the gable wall is pierre-perdu. Sunday School in much plainer style of 1895 to south, with Gothic porch and flanking windows to gabled west front. The complex is set in SW corner of an adjoining large walled cemetery of 1852, which has cast-iron gates inscribed 'Cimetière à l'usage de tous les cultes'.
