External Description
A large church, built of granite and rendered with Portland cement, in the shape of a basilica with a high central nave flanked by lower lean-to aisles. The roofs are slated. It is seven bays long but the bays at either end are blind. There are plain pilasters topped by unusual capitals consisting of pairs of console brackets. The plain entablature above is decorated with further console brackets holding up the plain cornice. The north and south gables are pedimented with central louvered roundels. The pedimented north front has three tall windows, the central one itself pedimented with console brackets, all set in panelled plasterwork to walls. The windows of the aisles are segmental headed and those of the nave are round headed. Clear glazing, small-paned windows. South window has pictorial glass installed 2002. Round-arched doorways at the ends of the aisles. The south gable is windowless with a large blind arched window and two segmental headed doorways below. Interior remodelled 2002 but retains remarkable internal space in Italian Renaissance style, lit by clerestorey and with stylised cushion capitals to six-bay arcades. There is a modern church hall (1967) to the west, linked to the church. Manse. Car parking bounded by boundary wall and railings.
