How the Genuine Jersey soil improver is made
Genuine Jersey soil improver is a compost that contains only green waste collected at La Collette.
This product spends a minimum of 12 weeks in the open windrow where it goes through processes of sanitisation, stabilisation and maturation before being screened.
The resulting soil improver is a Genuine Jersey product that is available for the public to buy.
This soil improver has been approved as suitable for use in organic farming.
Other products we make from green waste
We make 4 other products from the green waste we collect. All these composted products are tested as a minimum for:
- pathogens
- potential toxic elements
- physical contaminants
The soil improver grade material is also tested for weed seed germination and plant phytotoxicity.
All grades of compost products are available for agricultural use.
This is administered by Operations and Transport. It involves a consultant calculating the target application rate based on nitrogen. A contractor then works with land managers to identify suitable fields and grades, delivers and spreads compost.
Soil blending composted products
We produce 2 types of soil blending compost products.
These are 0 to 40 milimetres products that are composted for a minimum of 6 weeks and go through a screening process prior to dispatch.
One of the soil blending products is made exclusively of green waste. The other has either plasterboard or seaweed with green waste.
Agricultural grade composted products
We produce 2 types of agricultural grade products.
These are 0 to 40 milimetres products that we compost for at least 4 weeks and go through a screening process prior to dispatch.
One of the agricultural grade products is made exclusively of green waste. The other has either plasterboard or seaweed with green waste.
