The Transport and Technical Services Recycling Team are reminding Islanders to recycle their Christmas rubbish.
Christmas cards and wrapping paper can be taken to your local paper recycling bank (13 banks island wide) and Jersey Hospice (supported by Brewin Dolphin) is organising a real Christmas tree collection scheme taking place on the 5th and 6th January 2008. All of the Christmas trees collected will be taken to the Green Waste Site at La Collette for recycling.
The Recycling Team’s ‘Recycle This Christmas’ campaign has been kindly sponsored by HSBC Bank who also sponsored the ‘Recycling Roadshow Trailer’ which visits schools and community events with the aim of raising awareness about recycling initiatives and how we all can ‘slim our bin.’
HSBC Regional Director Dave Hellen said, "People’s awareness of the importance of recycling has increased dramatically over recent years, and we are keen to support this initiative, which will benefit the local environment. I am confident that this project will gain tremendous support from residents who are keen not to throw their cards away when they take them down."
Emma Richardson, Assistant Recycling Officer, said ‘ It is important that recycling is made easy for people so I’m thrilled that cards and wrapping paper can be taken to any of the paper recycling banks again this year along with newspapers and magazines.’
Cardboard (including card food packaging), metals (such as food and drink cans and metal packaging), plastic bottles and household batteries can all be recycled at the Recycling Centre and local recycling banks. A full list of the facilities is available from www.gov.je/recycling
