99% of census questionnaires returned

16 June 2011

More than 99% of Jersey households have returned their census questionnaires to the census office.

Chief Statistician at the Jersey Statistics Unit, Dr Duncan Gibaut, said: “We’ve had a fantastic response from Islanders and want to thank everyone who has responded. The census is important to all of us, as it will inform the planning of a wide range of services in the Island, such as health, education and transport.

“We are now in the final phase of follow-up for the few households who haven’t yet returned their form. People need to act straight away to avoid the risk of a fine."

The census office will be busy processing the returned questionnaires for several months to come. Following this and the initial data analysis phase, it is anticipated that the headline population figures will be ready to be released around the end of 2011. The first figures to be published will be the total population headcount for Jersey and the age and gender characteristics of residents.
