Chinese Ambassador to visit Jersey

08 August 2014

The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Liu Xiaoming, will visit Jersey from 11 to 14 August 2014. He will be welcomed to the Island by the Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst, who led an official visit to China in April this year.

Other States Members, including the Minister for External Relations, Senator Sir Philip Bailhache, the Minister for Economic Development, Senator Alan Maclean, and St Helier Connétable, Simon Crowcroft, are also scheduled to meet the Ambassador.

His Excellency, who will be travelling to the Island with his wife Ms Hu Pinghua, will be the guest of honour at a dinner hosted by the Deputy Bailiff (and Bailiff Designate), William Bailhache. He will also meet the Lieutenant-Governor, General Sir John McColl.

Senator Gorst said “It will be a pleasure to be able to introduce the Ambassador and his wife to Jersey. Official visits of this kind support the creation of new business links with China, and they are also an opportunity to showcase Jersey’s history and heritage, as well as the world-class professional services that we offer.”

During his stay the Ambassador will receive guided tours of the Durrell Wildlife Park, the Jersey War Tunnels and Mont Orgueil Castle. He will also meet representatives of the financial services and dairy industries, as well as the Head Teacher of Haultieu School, which has established links with BaYi School in Beijing.
