Islands focus on education

30 June 2015

Education Ministers from the three Crown Dependencies are taking advantage of the NatWest Island Games this week to talk about matters of mutual interest.

Tim Crookall, the Isle of Man Minister for Education and Children, and his chief officer, Professor Ronald Barr, are in Jersey for the Games. They are taking a day out of the sporting schedule on Thursday to meet ESC Minister Deputy Rod Bryans, Director of Education Justin Donovan, Guernsey Education Minister Deputy Robert Sillars and his chief officer Jon Buckland.

On Thursday morning, the group will visit the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) and parenting support services at The Bridge. This is followed by a visit to the Pathways Children and Family Centre at Samares School, and the new building at St Martin’s Primary School. There is a more formal meeting in the afternoon to discuss policy development, early intervention and higher education issues.

Deputy Bryans said “Our three jurisdictions are facing broadly the same issues and challenges so it makes sense to get together whenever we can to share our experiences and expertise. I’m grateful to Mr Crookall for making education part of his visit to Jersey, and to the Guernsey team for coming to join us for the day.”
