Teachers' survey launched

09 September 2015

The Education, Sport and Culture Department is asking Jersey teachers to complete a new survey about various aspects of their work, and the results will be used to develop future policies and practice in schools.

The survey is a direct result of the Education Social Partnership with the NASUWT teachers’ union, which was launched last Autumn, and discussions with other unions. It is the first survey of its kind to be carried out in the Island and includes staff in States and private sectors.

Up-to-date information collected

ESC Minister Deputy Rod Bryans said “We know that the key to a good education is motivated and inspiring teachers. To properly support our staff we need to have up-to-date and clear information about which areas of their working lives are going well and which are not. This survey will provide valuable information direct from our front-line professionals and the ultimate aim, as always, is to make sure any improvements that come from it directly benefit young people.”

The Education, Sport and Culture Department is today sending out copies of the survey direct to every teacher in primary and secondary schools across the Island. It covers a broad range of issues including professional development, resources, pupil behaviour, classroom practice and teaching and learning strategies. Teachers can also complete the survey online.

Director of Education Justin Donovan added “I hope all our teachers will take this opportunity to get involved in how the future of their profession will look. The information they provide will make an important contribution to the work of the Department.”
