Tunnel closing at night

12 February 2015

The tunnel is being closed at night for approximately five weeks while maintenance work is carried out.

The tunnel is currently closed in the evenings from 6.45pm until 6am to allow panels to be taken down to inspect the cladding. Gaps in the panelling will start appearing as this process continues.

People will still be able to walk through the tunnel during this preparation period. However, during the week of the inspection from the 23 to 27 February, the walkways will be closed for health and safety reasons.

The panels will then need to be replaced so the tunnel will continue to close at night for a further two weeks, but people will be able to use the pedestrian walkway during this time.

Transport and Technical Services will signpost restrictions during the five week work period.
