Vaccine appointments announced for 35-39-year olds

06 May 2021

As part of Phase 2 of the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme, Islanders aged 35-39-years old will be able to book their appointments from Friday 7 May, with appointments to receive their vaccinations starting from Saturday 8 May.

Head of the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme, Becky Sherrington, said: "We are consistently making significant progress with the vaccination roll-out and have seen excellent uptake of the vaccine since rolling out Phase 2 of the Programme to Islanders under 50 years of age.

"41% of the adult population are now fully (received two doses) vaccinated, and we have good comparable vaccination rates to the UK, which is incredible progress and testament to all the hard-working team up at Fort Regent.

"As we move through the age tiers in Phase 2 and start to vaccinate younger Islanders who might not see themselves as at risk from COVID, I'd like to remind everyone that they should not delay in booking.

"Although illness is more severe in the elderly and in high and moderate risk individuals, young healthy people can still get a significant illness, and if people get unwell, they could spread the disease to friends, family, and others around them. Long COVID appears to be more common in the young and can also cause prolonged health problems."

Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Richard Renouf, said: "The progress we are making with our vaccination programme is world-class, and I would once again like to thank all Islanders who have attended for their vaccination. The team at Fort Regent are working tirelessly to offer the vaccine to all eligible Islanders.

"The Programme has always been a community effort and I'd like to extend particular thanks to the volunteers and the team at St John's Ambulance who have been there day in, day out on a voluntary basis."

The latest statistics, up to Sunday 2 May show that 41% of adult Island population are fully vaccinated (received both doses).

Key figures as at Sunday 2 May:

  • 99% of over 80-year olds are fully vaccinated
  • 63% of 55-59-year olds are fully vaccinated
  • 72% of 45-49-year olds have had their first dose
  • 61% of 40-44-year olds have had their first dose
  • 83% of clinically extremely vulnerable (all ages) are fully vaccinated
  • 82.01 doses per 100 people in the population
