Control of Housing and Work law amendments adopted

31 March 2022

Amendments to the Control of Housing and Work (Jersey) Law 2012, adopted  by the States Assembly, will provide a framework for the flexible migration controls within the recently agreed inaugural Common Population Policy.

Further detailed legislation will be developed later this year and will be subject to consultation with businesses and other stakeholders.

Assistant Chief Minister, Deputy Rowland Huelin, said: "I am grateful to all those who have engaged with me and with the recent public consultation, or who have contributed in any way to the development of this new law. It represents a solid foundation on which we can build more detailed regulations later this year.

"I am of course aware of the staffing challenges that businesses everywhere are facing at present. This legislation is flexible and capable of being quickly adapted to the future needs of the Island and will enable the Government to provide targeted assistance to the sectors that need it.

"This also means that we can move forward positively with the flexible controls we need to manage the Island's population."
