Jersey delegation attends British-Irish Council

08 July 2022

A Ministerial-led delegation attended the 37th British-Irish Council (BIC) summit in Guernsey from 7th - 8th July.

Chief Minister Senator John Le Fondré, Chief Minister-designate Deputy Kristina Moore and Deputy Ian Gorst represented Jersey over the two-day event. Chief Executive and Head of the Public Service Suzanne Wylie was also in attendance.

The annual summit brings together representatives from the Irish Government; UK Government; Scottish Government; Northern Ireland Executive; Welsh Government; Isle of Man Government; and the Governments of Jersey & Guernsey. Ministers considered recent political developments and held a thematic discussion on Collaborative Spatial Planning.

Chief Minister John Le Fondré said: "It was a great pleasure to represent Jersey at the British-Irish Council again. The Summit provides the opportunity to discuss the crucial issues facing all our jurisdictions, and to both learn from others and share Jersey's successes. This summit's thematic discussion on collaborative spatial planning is of particular significance to the Island given the challenges we face. It's important that we continue to work closely with our colleagues across Britain and Ireland moving forward".

Chief Minister-designate Kristina Moore said: "It was a privilege to attend my first BIC summit. It is an important forum for consultation and cooperation across several key areas, including energy, housing, and the environment. I look forward to attending future summits, and to further strengthen Jersey's relationships with all Council members".

Jersey is set to host the summer summit in 2023.
