Look out for the lunchbox heroes in partnership with CI Co-op

30 August 2024

Public Health has partnered with the Channel Islands Co-op with an aim to make identifying healthy food for children’s lunchboxes easier.

The new initiative, led by Public Health and delivered through the Co-op, introduces instore signage across all Co-op shops in Jersey to signal which foods are nutritionally balanced and healthy choices for a child’s lunchbox.

The instore promotion of these items is complemented by additional resources, including shopping lists, recipes and videos, which are available online at channelislands.coop/lunchboxheroes and on Public Health and the Co-op’s social media channels.

Director of Public Health, Professor Peter Bradley, said: “Good nutrition is vital to support children’s learning and we hope that this new initiative, along with already established healthy eating programmes including school meals and Food4Thought, will support families whose school are not yet offering hot school meals or who prefer to send their children with a lunchbox.

“We are also working with our Public Health colleagues and CI Co-op in Guernsey to extend this initiative to shops in the other Islands. I would like to thank the Co-op for supporting Public Health with this initiative and making healthy choices, easy choices.”

Commercial Delivery Manager at CI Co-op, Perushani Augustine, said: "We're proud to partner with Public Health Jersey to encourage healthy eating habits in primary-aged children. At the Co-op we take pride in caring for our community and understand the nutritional benefits of a well-balanced diet for good physical and mental wellbeing.

“We hope that our healthy lunchbox solutions will make life a little easier for parents and carers, and ensure their little heroes are looked after. Packing a healthy lunchbox is not only about the food, but also an opportunity to sprinkle some positivity on their day and ensure children are ready and able to learn and perform to their full potential."

The lunchbox heroes campaign launches today across all Co-op stores in Jersey. Islanders should look out for the lunchbox heroes shelf wobblers to identify items which Public Health dieticians recommend for children’s lunchboxes
