Our role is to enhance natural and urban spaces while meeting Jersey’s development needs.

Contacting Planning

If you have submitted your application and have a planning officer, contact them for any queries.

If you leave them a voicemail, make sure you provide your:

  • name
  • phone number
  • some details about your query

They’ll get back to you within 2 working days unless they are away.

For support whilst your officer is away email planning@gov.je

If you don’t have a planning officer you can email your query to planning@gov.je. We’ll try to respond within 10 working days.

In-person meetings

To speak to someone in person you can come to see our duty officer at Customer and Local Services Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm.

If you already have a planning officer, you need to book an appointment with them directly. 

Pre-application advice

You can receive advice before you submit a planning application.

This will help:

  • make sure your project meets all the necessary requirements
  • avoid potential issues
  • make the planning process smoother

What we can’t advise you on

Our officers cannot always help you and shouldn’t be contacted for some planning related queries. 

We can’t:

  • give our opinions on whether your planning application will be approved without a formal pre-application process
  • provide regular updates on your applications whilst it’s being considered
  • advise neighbours on what they should or shouldn’t object to
  • discuss the technical details of applications, refusals or appeals
  • answer questions on ongoing or past investigations related to compliance, land and habitats

You can search for existing planning applications in our planning register. 

Information includes:

  • site details
  • descriptions of the work
  • plans
  • name of the planning officer

We’ll add new applications within 5 days of being approved.

The planning application process

Your planning application goes through several stages before a decision is made.

If we think there might be delays with your application, we’ll let you know as soon as possible.

Validation

Once we receive your application, we check it for completeness and calculate the fee within 5 days.

To speed up the process, we recommend using the planning and building portal.

We then advertise your application in the

Consultation and comments

After validation, we consult relevant organisations for their input and publish your application online for public comments.

Comments should be submitted within 21 days. We may consider late comments if the application hasn’t been decided yet.

Decision making

We aim to make a decision on 85% of:

  • minor applications within 8 weeks
  • major applications within 13 weeks

For complex projects, we use Planning Processing Agreements. These are project management tools that help streamline the process and keep everyone informed.
