Planning permission
You will not require planning permission to erect a satellite or TV antenna to your home provided that:
- the property is not a a listed building or place (LBP) or a potential listed building or place (pLBP)
- only one dish is erected
- the dish is less than 60cm in diameter and is not on a principal elevation (which is any elevation or wall of a building which faces a road)
- it is not commercial telecommunications equipment
- the building is not within a conservation area (CA) if the installation would face a road
- if it is placed on the ground in front of a principal elevation, it is no higher than 1m above ground level at its highest point (‘principal elevation’ means any elevation that faces or is within 1 metres ofa public road. A ‘public road’ is a road or footpath which is maintained at the expense of the public)

Where to install your dish
You should install your satellite dish where it will have the least visual impact. You should avoid the following locations:
- in front of the building line of the property
- above the roof ridge of the property
- other particularly conspicuous locations
