External Description
International Style house on a hill overlooking Sandybrook. "A splendid essay on the use of a difficult sloping site and the turning of every difficulty into an aesthetic advantage" Maurice Boots, 1986 'Architecture in Jersey'. The house is plain white rendered with characteristic cubic forms, nautical detail, corner windows and sun decks. The house rises to 3 storeys, stepping down the slope to south, each roof forming balcony to floor above. The entrance (west) elevation is predominantly solid wall in 5 bays, stepping in to originally-designed central entrance bay. There are original double doors, single pane obscured glass with reeded margin lights, approached by brick steps with rendered bases either side; a cantilevered concrete canopy over with triangular oriel window above, a porthole window on ground floor to south; and corner windows. A chimney rises in the southern bay. The south elevation retains its corner windows (later addition doors between) and second floor sun deck with horizontal rails over solid parapet. The late C20 alterations and additions are not of interest. This includes the post-1980 sun-room to the south (the original 1930s cantilevered sun deck now lost), the garage and small structures to the north, the additional floor added to the section north of the entrance block, and modern upvc windows. There has also been alteration to some window openings.
Internal Description
The interior was greatly altered from the 1980s onwards and is not included within the listing.
