Jersey’s waters contain an extraordinarily rich and diverse range of marine habitats, which have been mapped and reported on in the Jersey Marine Spatial Plan​.

Several of these habitats ar​e internationally recognised for their importance to global ecosystems and are recognised as threatened under international agreements such as OSPAR, Ramsar, and Convention on Biological Diversity. These include:

• kelp forests
• maerl beds​​
  
• seagrass meadows
