Hearing tests
Your GP must refer you into our service for a formal assessment. Contact us directly to make an appointment for a shorter hearing screening test. We no longer run a drop in hearing screening service.
Hearing loss
If you have a large, sudden drop in your level of hearing, which is not due to wax, contact us immediately.
Hearing screening tests for children and young people (8 months to 18 years)
Paediatric tests are by appointment at the General Hospital. We have a waiting list and prioritise requests based upon need.
New-born hearing screening
New-born hearing screening is usually performed on the Maternity Unit. Babies may require a follow up appointment which will take place at the Enid Quenault Health and Wellbeing Centre. These tests are normally performed in the first 4 weeks of life.
Hearing aids
This service is by appointment only. We offer appointments at the General Hospital and at Enid Quenault Health and Wellbeing Centre (previously Les Quennevais school).
We add new cases to the waiting list and prioritise requests based on need.
Private hearing aids
The Audiologists offer a private hearing aid service at the General Hospital.
This gives you a wider selection of models including:
- completely in the canal (CIC)
- in the ear (ITE)
- receiver in the canal (RIC)
- traditional behind the ear models
We only charge the cost of devices from the manufacturer plus appointment fees to cover time, equipment and room use. This keeps prices low for everyone. Appointment costs are non returnable. An information appointment is free. You only pay for the hearing aids if you decide to keep them. Warranty periods depend upon the manufacturer. Hearing aid repairs
We advise that behind the ear hearing aids are retubed every 6 months.
You can get your hearing aids repaired:

Drop in hearing aid repair clinic
Our drop in hearing aid repair clinic is available at the Enid Quenault Health and Wellbeing Centre.
It runs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning from 9am to 12pm,
Outside these hours, you can leave your faulty device in our dedicated box at the Centre reception. We will post it back to you when repairs are complete, You must leave your contact details, and let us know what the fault is. We have pens and envelopes at the reception for you to use.
There is no drop in clinic at the General Hospital and you must book an appointment.

We offer appointments at the General Hospital, and Enid Quenault Health and Wellbeing Centre.

Private hearing aid repairs
Private hearing aid repairs are by appointment at the General Hospital.
If we can't repair it, we can post it to the manufacturer on your behalf. Manufacturer's repair costs (if out of guarantee) are typically £75 to £100.
Lost or damaged hearing aids
Your hearing aids are expensive medical devices, on loan to you from Government of Jersey and you must look after them. We charge £90 (per hearing aid) to replace a device which is lost or damaged due to negligence.
If you normally wear 2 hearing aids and lose or damage one of them, you will need to make an appointment for us to connect your existing device to your replacement device.
Replacement batteries
You can buy replacement batteries from the Audiology Department at either:
- General Hospital, Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm, (closed 1pm to 2pm)
- Enid Quenault Health and Wellbeing Centre, 9am to 12pm, Monday to Friday
We can also take payments over the phone. We will post your replacement batteries to you.
Specialist hearing tests
We see specialist cases and hearing tests requested by Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Consultants by appointment only at the General Hospital.
