About the project
Infrastructure and Environment (IE) will undertake works to create a continuous pedestrian area across King Street in St Helier at the junction with New Cut and New Street.
The works are planned to take place from 6 January to 30 April 2025.
The improvements will:
- reflect the local character
- enhance the area's appeal and accessibility
- remove some existing street furniture
- incorporate new granite paving
- install public seating
- introduce soft landscaping

Access
Disabled parking
Disabled parking spaces on New Street south of the Union Street junction will be maintained during the project.
However, we may need to reduce the number of spaces at some times to facilitate construction activities.
Users will continue to exit via Burrard Street when leaving these spaces.
Pedestrians
Walking routes around the works and pedestrian access to local businesses will be maintained during the project.
However, we may need to reduce the pedestrian walkways at times.
Vehicles
Access to New Street south of Union Street will continue for businesses and residents only as far as St Paul's Church.
Deliveries south of St Paul's Church will be by arrangement with the contractor.
There will be no access to Library Place from New Street.
New Cut will be closed to all motorised traffic during the works. Deliveries will be from Library Place unloading bays.
Buses
Bus route along New Street and New Cut will be diverted. Find more information on
