Transport and Technical Services are providing additional cardboard recycling banks at the household recycling facilities already provided at:
- Les Creux Country Park on La Route Orange, St Brelade
- St Ouen’s Parish Depot on La Route de Vinchelez, St Ouen
- Holme Grown on La Rue au Long, Grouville
There are now 5 cardboard recycling facilities Islandwide, including the Household Recycling Centre at Gate 4 Bellozanne and St Saviour’s Parish Depot on Rue des Pres Trading Estate.
Household cardboard such as cereal boxes and food sleeves can be recycled along with larger cardboard boxes. However, larger boxes will need to be cut into small pieces to be able to fit into the recycling banks and no milk or drink cartons are accepted.
Recycling Officer, Emma Richardson, said “There is strong public demand for convenient cardboard recycling and so we are pleased to be able to provide 3 additional sites and hopefully more in the future. Cardboard is a difficult material to collect as it is so bulky but by having small slots on the recycling banks we are encouraging recyclers to cut up larger boxes so we can collect more cardboard in each bank which will help us make the service as efficient as possible.”
Transport and Technical Services would like to remind recyclers not to leave boxes on the ground by the recycling banks as the cost of this extra work may limit the expansion of recycling facilities elsewhere on the Island.
