Inspectors' report on draft Island Plan

01 December 2010

The Minister for Planning and Environment, Senator Freddie Cohen, has today published the independent Planning Inspectors’ report into the draft Island Plan.

Consultation on the draft Island Plan, held between September 2009 and March 2010, generated over 1,100 comments from nearly 200 individuals and organisations. All of these representations, together with debate around key areas of controversy and consideration of specific sites, have been reviewed by independent Planning Inspectors, Chris Shepley and Alan Langton.

The inspectors have now produced their report on these matters which includes a number of recommendations to the Planning and Environment Minister, Senator Freddie Cohen, as to how he might make changes to the draft plan.

Senator Cohen will now review the findings of the report before deciding how to take the draft Island Plan forward.

“I very much welcome the inspectors’ report and have released it straightaway so that everyone can see what they have said about the key planning issues facing the Island. I will now need to consider their recommendations very carefully in light of the representations that have been made about policies and proposals in the draft Island Plan, before deciding how to take the plan forward. I would wish to point out that I am not bound by these recommendations but I will, of course, give them very close attention. The final approval and adoption of the new Island Plan, however, remains with the States Assembly” said Senator Cohen.

Publication of the inspectors’ report is not an invitation for people to submit further comments to the Minister about whether they agree with the inspectors’ findings. The Minister will consider their recommendations and determine whether there are any new issues which require further specific consultation.

You can read the report online by following the link below. Hard copies of the report will also be available for viewing at the Planning Offices, South Hill and the States Book Shop, Morier House, St Helier.
