Day of your admission
Your admission letter will ask you to go to Sorel ward. Please make your way to the nurses' station when you arrive.
Nursing and consultant team
The private patient unit has a dedicated nursing team and daily consultant visits.
On arrival, you will meet your named nurse. They are responsible for your care. When they are off duty, other nurses will look after you.
Your consultant will visit you on the ward. If you haven't already done so, you will sign a consent form for your operation.
If you are having a general anaesthetic, your anaesthetist will also visit you.
Your consultant will tell you how long you'll need to stay in hospital.

The private patient unit is based on Sorel ward. The ward caters for medical and surgical admissions for insured and self-pay patients.

The private patient unit is located on Sorel ward, on the 6th floor of the General Hospital.
There are lifts at the Parade entrance of the hospital.

Visiting hours on the private patient unit
We offer extended and flexible visiting hours.
Friends and relatives are welcome to visit. Children need to be with an adult and supervised at all times.
All visitors need to report to the nurses' station. This helps staff ensure visits do not disturb your treatment or recovery.
We understand that friends or relatives may call the nurses' station to find out how you are getting on. For data privacy reasons, only limited information can be given over the telephone.
Meals on the private patient unit
Good food aids a speedy recovery. Our professional chefs prepare fresh meals every day in our onsite kitchen. They offer a range of dishes and can cater for all dietary and allergy requirements. This includes vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free.
Our private chefs will visit you daily to discuss menu choices and take your order.
Meals are usually served at the following times:

Lunch | 12pm to 2pm |
Dinner | 6pm to 7pm |
Tea, coffee or juice is available mid-morning and mid-afternoon.
Tea and coffee is available for your visitors.
