​​​About the degree

The BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions is a full University of Exeter degree. It aligns to the Level 6 Digital and Technology Solutions Professional Apprenticeship.

The programme is aimed at technology solutions professionals wanting to develop, protect and improve products, services and productivity by using technology. You can apply for it if you’re starting your career or want to retrain or upskill.

Degree apprentices are employed and earn a salary but study with the University of Exeter for a degree over 4 years. They need to spend 20% of their contracted working time studying on the course. The courses are a blend of flexible learning format which mixes on campus and online resources.

The current entry A-Level requirements are BBB.

The programme is supported by Skills Jersey. They provide apprentices access to local mentors to help and guide them through their apprenticeship. Find more information on mentoring support for your education and career​.

Employers supporting an apprenticeship

Apprenticeships can help you attract talent, retrain or create development opportunities for your current staff. Apprentices can be existing employees or new staff you recruit in a role that includes a degree apprenticeship.

A typical apprentice salary is recommended between £27,000 to £33,000 depending on experience and knowledge. Benefits package should include annual leave entitlement and study leave and may incorporate travel costs associated with residential learning. Final salary and benefits package is at the discretion of the company and will vary.

There are no Government of Jersey grants to cover the costs of apprentices to local businesses.

How students apply

Already in full time employment

If you’re looking at the degree and are employed you should talk with your line manager or Human Resources team.

You need to get the relevant levels of approval from your employer before you can complete the apprenticeship’s application form.

When you have approval, you’ll need to arrange a meeting with yourself, your employer and the University of Exeter.

This is to discuss the contracting and application processes.

Applying for an advertised role

You’ll first need to apply with a business offering a digital degree apprenticeship. Different employers have different selection processes. You may need to go for an interview or have extra stages to complete.

The University of Exeter will check with the employer that you meet the eligibility and entry criteria for the degree.

When you receive an offer from the employer you can complete the application form for the apprenticeship.

Fees and financial support

Tuition fees are set by the University of Exeter at £6,250 per year.

If you’re a first-time degree student you can apply for financial support to cover your tuition fees with Student Finance.​

Programme structure and content

The programme is designed to minimise disruption to the apprentice's daily role.

The blended teaching programme used by the University of Exeter provides apprentices with on campus teaching blocks at the Streatham Campus during September, January and May. This is supported by a weekly remote learning element including:

  • online classes
  • workshops
  • interactive exercise
  • recorded lectures
  • an assessed work-based learning project

The accredited syllabus provides a foundation core syllabus for the first 2 and a half years. It covers topics such as:

  • programming and programming logic
  • business organisation
  • computer system organisation
  • network infrastructure
  • information security
  • IT project management

For the third and fourth year, apprentices select a specialist pathway in 1 of the following 5 areas:

  • Software Engineering
  • Data Analysis
  • IT Business Analysis
  • IT Consultancy
  • Cyber Security
