Packing your hospital bag
You should make sure that you have your hospital bag packed well before your due date.
In your bag, you will probably want to pack:
- pregnancy records / notes
- any medication you may be taking
- birth plan
- something loose and comfortable to wear during labour
- front opening or loose fitting nighties or tops if you’re going to breastfeed
- loose, comfortable (maternity) outfit to wear home
- dressing gown and slippers
- comfortable supportive bras, including nursing bras if you’re planning to breastfeed
- breast pads
- toiletries – toothbrush, hairbrush, flannel, soap, moisturiser, shampoo, conditioner, lip balm, hair ties, etc.
- maternity sanitary pads
- nipple cream
- 5 or 6 pairs of knickers, disposable ones
- towels
- healthy snacks and drinks
- extra pillows
- ipad / camera / phone / chargers
- breastfeeding pillow
- lip balm
In your baby's bag, you might want to pack:
- 3 - 5 babygros, vests and sleepsuits
- clothes to take baby home in
- hat, scratch mittens, socks or booties
- a shawl or blanket
- muslin squares
- cotton wool
- a pram suit if it is cold
- plenty of nappies (allow 12 per day)
- a car seat for the trip home
