About the Healthy Start Pregnancy Scheme

This scheme provides low-income pregnant women with vouchers for fresh fruit and vegetables.

Research shows that good nutrition is vital during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and early stages of life for healthy growth and development.

This scheme  aims to remove financial barriers and increase access to good nutrition for pregnant women.

How to apply

You can apply for the Healthy Start Pregnancy Scheme if you:

  • are pregnant and you’ve had your first midwife appointment
  • receive Income Support

You can apply yourself or your midwife can apply for you.

How to use your vouchers

Your vouchers will be posted to you monthly throughout your pregnancy.

Be aware that if other members of your household do not know about your pregnancy, they could find out if they open your personal mail.

The vouchers you receive can be used at the following shops:

  • Co-op
  • Waitrose
  • Morrisons Dail
  • Marks and Spencer
  • Chequers Express
  • Alliance
  • Iceland

Your vouchers:

  • can only be used for fresh fruit and vegetables, this does not include tinned, jarred or frozen fruit or vegetables
  • can only be used at assisted checkouts, not at self-service checkouts
  • must be used within their ‘valid’ date, this is printed on each voucher

You cannot get change if the full value of a voucher is not used.

If you want to stop receiving vouchers, call +44 (0) 1534 445505 or email customerservice@gov.je
